A Glimpse of the Reality that is SER (with Picture)

Hello everyone, we hope you and yours are doing well.

I typically don’t post a lot of pictures from the Rest For Your Soul ministry because I don’t want people faces being out there and it’s hard to get pictures that truly encompass what we are doing without having people’s faces in them, but I was able to get one today and it is below. This will show you a little bit about the community that we are ministering to. They’re not all like this. Some of them are better some of them are worse, but they all need Jesus.

The lady is someone that we see on a fairly regular basis, the gentleman I don’t know that I’ve seen him before or not but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been there.

This is what they call “nodding.”It’s the state of heavy sedation that comes from using heroin, where they pass in and out of consciousness.

On a brighter note, we got an update from a young couple, the young lady has been coming to our ministry on a consistent basis for a long time and the young man we’ve seen off and on. She has been clean for over a month and just got a job at a local restaurant and he has been clean for almost a month and looking for work. They have applied for housing through a local agency and are well on their way to recovery and rebuilding their life. My hope is now that they are clean and in a clear state of mind to get them plugged into a good solid local church.

We also have been getting

Twice today, while we had significant lines waiting for food, I was able to do  “sermonettes” based on 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Galatians 5:19-21 and 2 Timothy 3:1–5. All three speak about the types of sin that keep people from entering the kingdom of heaven. Both times, calling people to repentance.

In between and after, I had the opportunity to pray with several people, 3 of which calling me to them for prayer. I was also able to pray with and encourage a young brother and sister, both are in elementary school, who stop by every Tuesday when they get off the bus.

They have both been dealing with bullies at school and on the bus. I encouraged them to do as Jesus says by loving their enemies. I encouraged them to pray for the bullies and be as nice as possible to them even when they are being mean. I later found out that Melissa had encouraged them in the same way last week.

We are still praying about possibly getting a building for the Rest For Your Soul ministry and we will keep you updated as we know more. Please join us in praying for God’s will in that matter.

Also, we are still in need of team members. If you feel led to serve in this ministry you can contact me directly at derek@buchanansinthewild.com
