Not the greatest of news

Not the greatest of news

Hello everyone, we hope you and yours are doing well.

Some sad news this week. On Sunday I found out that Steven left detox early and went back to the streets. He complained that the shower was dirty, the food tasted bad and that he was surrounded by crazy people. As I told him, I’m sure it wasn’t as bad as sleeping in a tent in the cold but in all honesty those “reasons”are just excuses for the reality of that through addiction, shame, false teaching and pride, the enemy has a choke hold on him. Keep praying for him.

Yesterday, Tuesday, we found out that Uncle Bob died some time last week. Uncle Bob had been a regular since the beginning. He had an extensive amount of Bible knowledge and probably could have taught Sunday school but at some point in his life he had fallen into the trap of addiction. A couple of months ago, Bernardo had tried to get him into detox at Lewis Gale and during the initial exam the doctors realized that he had congestive heart failure. They wanted to admit him but he wouldn’t do it and because that diagnosis, he saw no reason to quit using drugs. We don’t have any firm details of his death.

We had a couple of our regular young ladies come through, both in extremely bad shape, one ranting all kinds of craziness, it’s like her mind had shutdown into coping mode, but one thing that she mentioned repeatedly was being raped and tortured. I don’t know how true it was but it does happen quite frequently out here.

The other, who’s only 22, came through wearing nothing on the lower half of her body but a blanket wrapped around her. She was adjusting the blanket and I inadvertently saw bare leg up to just below her hip. She has looked worse and worse every time I have seen her over the last few weeks.

It’s hard to understand the hold that Satan has on these people unless you have lived at least a little bit of it. They aren’t just trapped by addiction, but years, sometimes a lifetime of shame, fear, trauma, abuse, neglect, feeling lost, broken, worthless and unloved. Like this is all that they will ever be, all that they good for.

Lies.

Pray that God will send messengers to speak truth against these lies. That the Holy Spirit would weigh so heavy on their hearts, convicting them of their sin that they cry out for Christ. That Jesus would reveal  His love for them through dreams and visions.

  1. Praying for these dear ones, as you bring the light of Jesus into their lives. And that the Lord would abundantly bless the ministry workers, in Jesus name.
